From January 2015, we established the Derby Men’s Centre, which currently includes a men’s counselling service.
Please note that this will take place in a separate building to our women’s services/activities and is an entirely separate entity to Derby Women’s Centre.
Men’s Counselling Support
During counselling, men can work through a range of issues relating to low confidence, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, parenthood, depression, distress following abuse or trauma, stress, anxiety and bereavement.
We are taking referrals from men aged 18 and over who are based in and around the Derbyshire area. Referrals can be made online via the Men’s Counselling page or by calling 01332 341633.
We currently have a fairly short waiting list. After your referral is processed, you will be invited for an initial assessment with our Counselling Coordinator to make sure that counselling is the right option for you and for you to be matched up with the most appropriate male counsellor for your needs. We are currently in the process of bringing more male counsellors on board.
Fees vary according to income and ability to pay and are agreed at the initial assessment.
Domestic Abuse Perpetrators Programme
We started to deliver a pilot perpetrators programme from March 2016. This has been a success in helping to change the abusive attitudes and behaviours of perpetrators who have
Delivery is led by an experienced male facilitator with a strong background in domestic violence intervention work, and a trained female co-facilitator.
We are currently in the process of trying to get funding to continue to deliver the programme beyond the initial pilot stage and if this is successful, we will be working towards RESPECT accreditation for the programme, which will only be the second of its kind in the East Midlands.
