DWC among other women’s organisations facing funding cuts

Derby Women’s Centre is not alone. According to a report by the Women’s Resource Centre  published last month, women’s organisations are more vulnerable to funding cuts than other service charities. Other research by the WRC shows that 95% of women’s organisations face funding cuts or a funding crisis in the next year.

Euro MEP supports Derby Women’s Centre

Glenis Willmott, East Midlands MEP and Labour’s leader in Europe, has expressed concern at the council’s decision to cut DWC’s funding, arguing this will negatively affect women and their families. See here for the Derby Telegraph’s report.

DWC still going strong despite threats to funding

Last September, Derby City Council informed us that they would cut Derby Women’s Centre’s funding from March 2012. The council opened a consultation with the public and invited the centre’s service users and partners to put their views on this proposal forward. The council is reviewing the responses and they will announce their final decision in February. Thank you to all of those who supported the centre during the consultation. We hope that the council will decide to reverse its proposal.
