DWC’s Elaine and Liz talk to Radio Derby about domestic violence

On Tuesday 28th February, Elaine, services coordinator at Derby Women’s Centre,  and Liz, a facilitator for DWC’s Freedom Programme, appeared on BBC Radio Derby to talk to presenter Aleena Naylor about domestic violence towards women.

We’re all really proud of Elaine and Liz for going on the radio to raise awareness of an important issue and to let people in and around Derby know where they can turn to for help if they have experienced domestic violence.

As Elaine and Liz discussed, domestic violence is an incident of threatening behaviour, violence, or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members. It happens far more than we think – evidence shows that 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence at some time in their lives.

Here are some organisations to call for help with issues relating to domestic violence:

  • Derby Women’s Centre – 01332 760573
  • Hadhari Nari (Derby Women’s Aid) – 01332 270101
  • Derby Family Justice Centre – 01332 256897
  • Next Step Derby –  01283 229854
  • National domestic violence helpline – 0808 2000 247
