Derby Women’s Centre meets King Richard III

  The Derby Women’s Centre holds a Swans Walking Group every 2nd Friday of the month. Our April event happened to fall on Friday the 13 April and the group made a trip to Leicester to visit the Richard III centre. In keeping with traditions of the Friday 13th superstition not everything went according to plan, but a great day was had by all.  They all arrived back home in Derby cheery and enthused by a very royal day. We made it, we celebrated 40 years providing support to the communities of Derby and Derbyshire, helping women and their families enjoy better lives. We had a special cake baked and donated by Lisa Wheatley of lisa’s Cakes Sweets and Treats, Derby to celebrate and Ruth Jackson cut and shared it to visitors at the recent International Women’s Day event in Derby. DWC visits the Ahmodiya Muslim Womens Inter-faith Symposium

On Sunday staff from the centre were invited to join the Ahmodiya Muslim Womens Interfaith Symposium. Annette, Kath and Kelly attended and would like to thank the ladies for inviting us. It was very interesting hearing from ladies from so many different faiths but all with the same message of love and acceptance to all. The pictures show the International Peace Flame, which is never extinguished and was actually flown over to the UK by the RAF from NewZealand.

BBC East Midlands Today Interviews Cllr Banwait about Derby Womens Centre

The Womens centre featured on Sunday 15 October East Midlands Today news bulletins with an interview with the leader of Derby City Council, Cllr Banwait. The centre has been raising funds since featuring on BBC East Midlands at the beginning and end of September this year whilst facing iminent closure. BBC East Midlands Today re-visit the Women’s Centre 4 weeks on.

BBC East Midlands today visited the centre this afternoon after first covering our plight at the beginning of September with the centre at risk of imminent closure. It is with great pride that we can share with the people of Derby and Derbyshire that the centre has received donations meaning we can run up to Christmas this year. BBC Radio Derby interviews – the plight of the Derby Womens Centre

There is likely to be a follow up regarding the plight of the Derby Women’s Centre and its campaign to raise funds to continue its work here in the City of Derby and beyond. Derby City Council issues an Apology following BBC Broadcasts

On BBC Radio Derby Martyn Williams Show this afternoon it was reported that Derby City Council had issued another statement following last weeks TV News and Radio interviews. What they said is that they were indeed referring people to the centre and that they apologised for denying this and for misinformation. We will post here last weeks BBC Radio Derby Broadcast and also tonight’s bulletin as soon as they are available.
