DWC still going strong despite threats to funding

Last September, Derby City Council informed us that they would cut Derby Women’s Centre’s funding from March 2012. The council opened a consultation with the public and invited the centre’s service users and partners to put their views on this proposal forward. The council is reviewing the responses and they will announce their final decision in February. Thank you to all of those who supported the centre during the consultation. We hope that the council will decide to reverse its proposal.

However, regardless of their decision, staff and voluteers continue to work hard to deliver vital services for women in Derby. There’s a lot happening at the centre right now, including crafts and creative arts workshops, employment support and counselling, and the legal surgery has recently been expanded to include longer appointments and more services. There is also an exciting new scheme to announce very soon, so watch this space!

Given the uncertainty of our funding, this is a difficult time for the women’s centre, but we are still going strong and hope to be around for a good while yet.
